In this study, light-weight wood-MOC cement composite building products, with sawdust and/or perlite as aggregate, were made through extrusion. Physical, nailing and mechanical properties of these composites were investigated. It was found that the specific dry densities of the wood-MOC cement composites were close 1.0 and they were nailable like hard natural wood. Their flexural strength decreased as temperature increased. By replacing 50% sawdust in weight by perlite, the composite exhibited less die swell and higher temperature resistant performance.

Extrudability of Solid Wood by Acetylation and In-Situ Polymerisation of Methyl Methacrylate

Recently, a processing technique resembling plastic-type forming has been developed for solid wood. To improve the recyclability of the formed products, thermoplastics were used as a binder. In this study, a hydrophobic monomer of methylmethacrylate (MMA) was used as a thermoplastic binder and was impregnated into wood, then polymerised by heat to form polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). The effects...

Effect of Particle Volume Fraction on the Tensile Properties of Composite Al6061/SiC Materials by Hot Extrusion

In the present study the effect of phase volume fraction on the reinforcement of microstructure and tensile properties of composite extrusion process Al6061/SiC has been studied. For this purpose, the base alloy Al6061 using pure aluminum ingots, silicon, of Al-50% Mg, Al-10% Cr and a thin copper rod was prepared. Next, the composite Al6061/5% SiC, Al6061/10% SiC, Al6061/15% SiC and Al6061/20% ...
